Mrs Churchill’s War aims to tap into several genre fan-bases.

Historical/Period Drama

There is steady international appetite for British historical and period dramas, which provide a positive trend for the current interest in such films. The temporal setting for period dramas gives them lasting appeal as they are not confined to the time they are produced, thus boosting expected profits over the long term.

Romance

The appeal in romance films is a lasting one, and the genre crucially transcends geographical, linguistic, and cultural boundaries. This is important in securing strong returns internationally.

Female Protagonists

There has been a recent intensification of production of successful films with female protagonists in films such as Suffragette, Jackie, Hunger Games, and Star Wars. Accordingly, now is a very opportune time to create a film about one of history’s leading women.

Biopic

The advantage of the biopic is that there is already broad cultural interest in the characters depicted - in film parlance it can be considered similar to a “pre-sold franchise”.

The Churchills

Current interest in British history of the twentieth century and the Churchills is very high and Winston Churchill has featured as a character in many recent successful films and  television series including The Crown and (offscreen) in Dunkirk. Notable amongst recent releases is Darkest Hour, which grossed approximately $150m around the world.

Awards Consideration

Comparable films have garnered extensive awards including multiple BAFTAs and Academy Award nominations and wins. Mrs. Churchill’s War is believed to have the elements which can propel it into award recognition.
